About Community Action Partnership
America was built on the promise that every family should have an opportunity for success. Yet, today’s uneven economy has put a good quality of life out of reach for too many Americans. National, state, and local responses will be more effective when we tap into the proven expertise of local agencies with real-life experience helping families succeed.
The Community Action Partnership is a national hub that links the nation’s 1,000+ Community Action Agencies to each another – and to leaders looking for solutions that connect Americans to greater opportunity. This includes:
• The Community Action Network: The nation’s Community Action Agencies are a robust, state and local force – reaching children and families in 99% of America’s counties with life-changing services, from early childhood education to job training to services for seniors.
• Training & Innovation: The Partnership office supports local agency leaders with training and technical assistance so they can apply best practices to their work and pursue innovative strategies that strengthen families and communities.
• Community Change: The Partnership works hand in hand with our Network agencies to pursue community-wide solutions to barriers holding families back from success, including through our programs on Community Economic Development program and Racial Equity.
• A Voice for Opportunity: The Partnership is a unified voice for our members, shaping smarter federal and state proposals on how to help families succeed by lifting up solutions that work.
The nation’s Community Action Agencies embody our nation’s spirit of hope, change people’s lives, and improve communities. When national, state and local leaders tap into these agencies’ experience, they can promote workable solutions that connect more families to opportunity – and make America a better place to live for everyone.
Community Action Partnership is a national, 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization that provides technical assistance, training and other resources to Community Action Agencies, nonprofit and public groups funded by the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG), a federal program that allocates funding to states to move people and families to self-sufficiency across the United States. The resources provided to Community Action Agencies across the country by Community Action Partnership allow our Agencies to stay up to date on the latest best practices to empower low-income individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency. We are committed to strengthening, promoting, representing and serving our Network of Agencies to assure that the issues of poverty are effectively presented and addressed.
Community Action comes out of President Lyndon B. Johnson's War on Poverty and from the advocacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 created the Network of locally-focused Agencies serving low-income populations. True to our history, Community Action Partnership remains committed to addressing the root causes and conditions of poverty in the United States, as demonstrated by the diversity of programs provided by our Community Action Agencies, which offer services from Head Start and other child development programs to Weatherization Assistance, job training and education support and elder care programs, among many others. Our Community Action Agencies are diverse in their service and programs, since they tailor their approaches to meet the specific needs of the communities they serve, and they put a human face on poverty while advocating for those who do not have a voice and providing opportunities for self-sufficiency. Community Action Partnership is dedicated to serving the entire community, as stated in the Promise of Community Action.
